The listing, Pocket Watch .... Needs Little TLC has ended.
This is a beautiful pocket watch that has been estimated at being worth near 2000.00. I love it but my wife says its time for it to go.
I can not offer free shipping as my wife and I are getting ready to head back to college.
This pocket watch is produced by HELVETIA. It has all the original parts except for the crystal and the main spring, both of which have been replaced. On the back of the pocket watch is printed GS/TP & P60636.... I do not know what this means but it means something. There is also an arrow or teepee imprint, I have been told this imprint might mean that it was used by a British officer in World War II. All of which can be seen in the pictures. The watch is currently not functioning and my wife is saying it has to go instead of repairing it.
About $100 for complete repair (which would probably give you a year of free cleaning and service as well). That's at a professional place. If you know a friend who fixes them, they may only charge you for the parts. It's a basic repair I believe from overwinding the watch too many times.
curious info? exactly who valued this timepiece at $2000.00? what size is it? what is the case made of? do you have pics of the movement? please take a photo next to a quarter. does the watch tic at all?how many jewels? thank you
If you can't repair it yourself or from a friend, a professional will charge about $100 to repair it, but, if they fix it, it's well worth the money. I just simply can't afford such a luxury at this point in time being a college student.
Please can you answer my questions? without a size...amount of jewels? type of movement? serial number? it is hard to value this watch. that is also why I asked who valued it at $2000.00? it is a generic swiss made by the general watch co, in switzerland. I need to also know if it tics, tells me if it needs a balance wheel or spring...common repairs to pocket watches...affects value and cost to repair. curious info? exactly who valued this timepiece at $2000.00? what size is it? what is the case made of? do you have pics of the movement? please take a photo next to a quarter. does the watch tic at all?how many jewels? thank you
Okay, it's 17 jewel as far as I remember. It's a mechanical wind up movement. The only numbers I have are on the outside of the case. If there is a serial number inside, I am not qualified to tinker with it to find it. Why $2000? It was a general estimate given by an antique dealer due to the markings, indicating it was owned by a British Officer during WWII (specifically the arrow and the GS/TP). It does not work, but it's had a spring repaired, I believe perhaps another spring has broken, so the repairs would be pretty basic to a trained watch repairman. The case appears to be brass. It is about the size of 3 or 4 quarters, so it's a fair size (bigger than most modern wristwatches). I hope this information helps.
Bidders, remember, I am just not able to fork out any money at all to repair the watch, even though I love it and it's design. I hate to part with it, but perhaps someone who has a little extra money can enjoy it and I can use the credits from it to obtain something more practical at the moment. That's what trading is all about :D
Flat rate envelope is 5.96 plus tax and if you want insurance that will be a little more. I will wrap it up to protect it from jostling around during shipping. Just remember the winner pays shipping.
