The listing, Vintage 1950s Cloisonné Cuff Links / Cufflinks State of Hawaii Seal has ended.
Up for bid is a vintage pair of cloisonné cuff links / cufflinks, from the earlier part of the 1950s. The shield on these cufflinks is the shield of the state of Hawaii. These cufflinks were purchased at a charity sale and are in good used condition!
They are missing the Phoenix, which was added to the state seal in 1959, when Hawaii became a state.
The quotation "ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono" is printed beneath the shield. Basically, it means: " The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness". The quotation is more than 160 years old, from Hawaii's longest reigning monarch and first Christian king, Kamehameha III.
There is a patent number (2472958, which is a 1949 patent grant), but they are otherwise unmarked. Background color is silver (cloisonné) with colors seen in scan.
I scanned them (last frame), then enlarged, and finally tried to photograph them (with limited success). My images leave something to be desired, but I hope you can get a good idea!
Very nice pair of cufflinks for your collection, or to wear if you like vintage items!
