Alot of things are deemed illegal to modify. But, If anyone knows the ps3 custom firmware. That was technically illegal. Geohot was sued but got away with only the inability to ever touch another sony console for the rest of his life. Even though they legally cant take away his right to own property. The judge didnt even think of the constitution when he gave ruling. Therefore you can root the device But, You void your warranty when doing so.

I don't mind voiding a warranty or two. I can do the repairs better and faster than most IT companies.

All of this talk of rooting is way over my head. But it's kinda like when they tell you not to cut the tags off your pillows and martesses.....who is checking if you do or not. It's not like an alarm goes off or you get sprayed with some kind of permanent dye. This is a nice tablet you should do well...good look. watching

Thank you. Rooting basically allows to attain access to the root directories allowing you to alter the base of the code meaning that you can change the code to accommodate programs that are not meant for that specific device. And it is not illegal to rip the tag off of your own mattress or pillow. It is only illegal for a store to do that.

Well the device is way to small to have a full sized HDMI port, so they put a mini on. Same thing, just a smaller interfase. Iif you have a mini HDMI to HDMI your good to go. If the bids get high enough I will through one in. Otherwise i have other devices that use mini HDMI.

You could run it on less than that, but you wouldnt be able to do much. Where as Microsoft Windows 7 requires 1gb of ram to boot, much less run any programs.

Ah! The child of Ubuntu. Good choice. I have used that on an older desktop. I had very little RAM, limmited funds, and a 60gb hard drive. Got Xubuntu running with no problems.

Linux is really good for older computers. It requires lower recourses for a higher output. May I advise Ubuntu(if you don't want to have to new with GRUB) or CentOS (if you know how to configure GRUB)?

Tis true. I suppose my ideas are little more than moot. I still dont see why I shouldn't be able to root my system. I mean, I can change the OS all I want, but I can't root it? Maybe Ill install Ubuntu on it(I know that Ubuntu is beginners Linux, but it is the easiest to work with for a conversion from desk top to tablet). Then there is no reason I cant root it and rig it to install android apps from Google play. They are both unix based systems. A few plug ins and it should work fine.

Thats true, but why paint the car? just sell it, there is someone out there who is bound to love green, then get a car that you like. This is probably what I would do haha

But who is going to like a device that can only be used for a fraction of its full potential?
Jan 4th, 2013 at 5:09:52 PM PST by
Original
Just looked it up again and the DCMA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) says that you can only root unless you have permission from the manufacturer, while this is a quote that defined a tablet "Found significant merit to the opposition’s concerns that this aspect of the proposed class was broad and ill-defined, as a wide range of devices might be considered ‘tablets,’ notwithstanding the significant distinctions among them in terms of the way they operate, their intended purposes, and the nature of the applications they can accommodate. For example, an e-book reading device might be considered a ‘tablet,’ as might a handheld video game device or a laptop computer." But I still think its kind of dumb because they have no way of monitoring who is rooting or not.

Thats like saying "Here, have this new car! It is a butt ugly green car, but it is illegal to paint it because that is not how I built it."
Jan 4th, 2013 at 5:02:41 PM PST by

I read that rooting a smart phone is not illegal, but a tablet was deemed that it had more "potential", for what ever that is worth, but because of that its illegal.
Jan 4th, 2013 at 3:59:47 PM PST by
Picture?type=square&access token=105469222550%7cd qfyki0ggnddypmnoq3ykmtsyq
Well, by definition I own the tablet. That being said it is my property. I can use it to do what I please, so long as I do not interfere with the rights of my fellow citizen. When I purchased the device I was not required to sign any contracts stating that I will not do such things with the device. It is my strong beliefe that I can then, under those circumstances, alter the device (I.E root the device) any way I see fit as my sole property.

Its already rooted. And it should not be illegal to alter the software on a device I already own. I am an indevidual programmer and I am very pro open source.
