Kirk Gibson didn't compile Hall of fame numbers, but he is legendary nonetheless. He won an MVP award in 1988 and World Series rings in 1984 (Tigers) and 1988 (Dodgers).
Kirk is best known for his performance in the 1988 World Series. Im game 1 against the heavily favored Oakland A's, an obviously injured Gibson came to the plate as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning and blasted a walk off home run on a 3-2 slider from Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley. The home run shifted the momentum of the series, which the Dodgers went on to win. The image of Gibson pumping his fist as he hobbled around first while his teammates charged the field is one of baseball's most historic and indelible images.
Gibson has since gone on to manade in Arizona, winning Manager of the Year in 2011.
