if its a Verizon phone it will only work with a Verizon plan. n if its 4G u will need a data plan which u can do by prepaid or contract. I have the new galaxy s 3 ...the only down side is it eats up my data n I pay for 8gb of data every month.

well u can put a data plan on it but no it doesnt you just have to have a wifi connection but you can access the phone without a sim to.

It should either be on the Outside of the box, on the bar codes. OR remove the battery and you will see a label with bar codes, one should say ESN. If anything, please take and post a picture of all the bar codes (box and under battery)
