I had a similar problem with an Aspire One, which needed bios re-flashing. I had Acer do it (it was under warranty), but found directions here: http://apevere.blogspot.com/2009/01/acer-aspire-one-black-screen.html - but your model is different. With some googling and digging through the acer ftp site, you might find the right flashing utility.

No, there is no software other than what is installed on the drive. That is all that came with it when I bought it.

I don't know what needs to be done to it. I do not like messing with small electronics. If anything it can be parted out if someone can not figure out what is wrong.
