An air stone is used in aquariums to aerate the water. As humans, fish also need to breath the air. Naturally, they may get the air from the water only (except species which can breath directly from air). If fishes (snails as well) don’t have enough air in the water, they use to swim to the surface. Generally, fish living at the top, middle or lowest levels are able to swim to the surface, but “pure” bottom dwellers aren’t able to stay at the surface all day long. They have to swim up and down and it is unnatural for them. Most of aquarium filters do aerate the water, but in some cases they don’t introduce enough air into the water, or fish need more air like a filter may “produce”. It is also good to use an air stone if you go somewhere for a longer time (vacation for instance). If the filter gets dirty, it loses it’s aeration possibilities and some fish may even die. But an aeration stone does not get dirty and it aerates all the time. Hope this helps. Thanks
oh, wow! i'm always in need of these! we have 10 betta fish, and two Goldfish, and out of those, two of the bettas use these, so we always need to have some extra, just in case!
sure do! use them, also, when cleaning the goldfish tank, since i love making sure it's scrubbed well. i also plan on breeding Guppies soon, so i'll defiantly need some more! lol
Great i think i will try these i have seen them at the store but never knew what they did. I have a blue gourami a pleco, 7 gaint danios and a dragon fish in my take and my dragon fish stays on the bottom so i think this will help.
