Up for bids is a rare, first year of issue, Type-1 1851 Silver 3 Cent Philadelphia Mint coin. Based on the detail remaining on the coin using this site:

I'm rating it an approx Between an Fine (F12) and Very Fine (VF35) based on the detail still in my coin.

It is important to note that the laurels and arrows seen in the pictures WERE NEVER ON MY COIN. The images in that photograde of are of Type 2. The type 1 did not have them in the C on the back. They're not missing, they were just never there. :o)

Retail value is all over the place on ebay. So I won't guess as to the value. The range I found was anywhere from $25 to $90 for coins that looked similar to mine of the same year. So those prices are hardly reliable. Just bid based on whether or not you want this beautiful coin to add to your collection. :o)

Fun fact about this coin:

Called a trime in some Treasury Department records, the three cent silver coin was the smallest ever issued by the U.S. in terms of weight and thickness.

Just wanted to point out that its a tiny coin. I know that the holder its in is either designed for a penny or nickel to give you an idea of the size. Thanks!

To be honest, I do too! Our coins today haven't changed much in a century and are really "busy". This has a nice clean design with open space. But I do like the new penny backs - the shield on this coin reminds me of the new penny.

Wow, thanks BubbaD! To be honest, I'm surprised at how well it's doing b/c it's not shiny silver anymore. But you could be very right since prices were all over the place it does all depend on the market you're selling it in. Fingers crossed! Lol!
