The listing, Roman Bronze Dolphin Decoration. 1st - 3rd century A.D. Antique has ended.
This is an ancient (about 1-3rd century a.d.) roman bronze dolphin decoration. Measurements: 28 mm x 29 mm. This piece has been cleaned a little to show the beauty. I did not do it, it was done by a collector.
Unique dolphin decoration with patina. Excellent rare collector's piece. Dolphins were revered by the ancient Greeks and Romans, and given prominence in works of art and decorations. Dolphin insignias were commonly used on ancient ships for protection. Ancient artifacts show dolphins being used in decorative ways.
This was found in the Balkin region of Eastern Europe and is authentic. I have no papers, but it comes from an individual who can be trusted.
Who knows what these pieces were for. Probably a lucky piece, but the fact it looks like a dolphin and in very good condition with nice patina makes it collectible. I've seen others but they weren't in as good a condition.
