Description

The listing, World War II Pilots Ring has ended.

OK, here's the scoop on this ring........I've had it looked at by a couple of antique shops. They are telling me that it is a WWII pilots ring. And that the wings emblems in the center were usually 18KT gold and the ring is silver.

Now, I've not had it tested for gold or silver content. But I looked up pilots rings on the internet and that information is correct. The ring is quite worn, as you'd expect for a 68 year old ring, and it needs to be shined up, but if the wings emblem wasn't gold wouldn't they be worn off in a different color?

Still a great piece and VERY RARE to even find a pilots ring. I expect most were buried with their owners.

Oh, and inside the shank is stamped --------- MEXICO. I can't read the top word. Must be Mexican silver? sterling?

Anyway, it's a pretty cool ring. I'm gonna guess size 9. Happy bidding!

Also, are there any other "designs" on the sides of the ring? Or just what looks like 3 bars? Or lines? TY

Just the three bars that fade away into the ring shank.

Are you fairly sure it is a 9? You can print out "ring sizing charts in 2 seconds & match it to the "circle" it best fits. Are you going by your ring size? Thanks!!!

Great idea! I did just that and it is closer to a 9.5. I was going by my ring size so I guessed pretty close.

GREAT AUCTION!!
It looks to be sterling which alot of these ww2 rings are, an depends on the ring, they do sell for quite a bit, some more than the 100.
Wish it wasn't ending yet :( I'd luv to bid!!

Took it to a couple of antique shops, they thought anywhere from $45- $100. But neither had ever seen one before.

You are absolutely right about the above! Probably the majority of similar items were never engraved!

I love unique things like this,,of course it is really hard to find out the "personal" history of the owner back then! I was hoping( although after so many years, they would have worn off, there would be a inscription, initials, a name or squadron!?) so a total mystery. But an amazing ring!!

Yes it is. It would be great if everyone back then had things engraved, it would be a link to history. My Dad gave my Mom a Sweetheart Locket necklace when he went off to war. It has two pics in it but no engraving. Without the pics it's just another necklace.

This is one unique ring! When you cleaned it up? Do you think it was just tarnish/dirt? That came off? I am curious of there was any darker enamel? I can't tell on the mobile app, but it did not look so bad, the way it was? I guess if I googled( which I am sure you already did!) the "cleaned" picture is closer to what they looked like new? Thanks! F&W!

No enameling on it, just years and years of dirt and tarnish. Yes the cleaner pic is closer to the original look, other than the wear of course.
