Innova 3030 CAN ODB II scan tool. Lets you read the trouble codes on your car/truck and also clear/erase them.

This is the secret that auto mechanics don't want you to know. Determine the problem and decide if you want to fix it yourself! A great thing to keep in your car to save a trip to the shop or to read coworkers' cars, too! I'm only selling this one since I upgraded to a Bluetooth model.

Works on all 1996 and newer cars (Foreign and Domestic) sold in the USA. A small number of 1994 and 1995 vehicles are also compatible.

Doesn't need batteries, just plugs into your car's (1996 or newer) DLC port. Keep this in your trunk or glove compartment, and if you ever get a "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light, plug this in and it will tell you where the fault lies.

Internet updateable by USB port, also can link to your PC to generate a free diagnostic report.

I bet it probably can read BMW's if they are the right year - http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/bmw/
Of course, it depends on the year. I had a friend with a 97 BMW and we couldn't find the OBDii port at -30F, but gave up looking after about 3 minutes. His car had some sort of message system that might predate that scanner.
