Up for bids is this 1982-S George Washington 250th Anniversary of Birth Commemorative Proof Silver Half Dollar. The George Washington Commemorative Half Dollar was struck to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of George Washington's birth. This was the first commemorative coin produced by the US Mint since 1964. It is considered the first "Modern Commemorative Coin".
The George Washington Commemorative Proof Silver Half Dollar was minted at the San Francisco (S) Mint. 4,894,044 of this coin were minted. The George Washington Commemorative Silver Half Dollar is comprised of .900 (90%) silver and .100 (10%) copper with a diameter of 30.61mm and a weight of 11.34 grams with a reeded edge. The obverse of the George Washington Commemorative Half Dollar features George Washington riding a horse. The reverse depicts the easter facade of Washington's home, Mt. Vernon. The George Washington Commemorative Half Dollar was designed by Elizabeth Jones.
