I feel a little better I went to the ER and got pain meds that I can't get to take at home, I'm in there at least twice a month for a shot and I.V bag and they keep me for about 40 min. to a hour then let me go home if I get better. My Fave. nurse was in there tonight so I got a sucker (BIG GRIN)

Part of the problem with flagging, I think, is that the Listia moderators are unpaid volunteers. They probably feel pressure to check all the auctions that are flagged and sometimes don't spend much time evaluating them.

I asked Listia about becoming a mod last summer, but just don't want to spend so much time working on the computer without some compensation. So, my hat is off to the mods for their generous service, but having a volunteer system like that doesn't do much for quality control.

When my sister joined Listia last summer, she was staying at my house. So I asked Listia if it would be okay for me to bid on her items after she got home and was using her own internet connection. They told me not to do that, so she and I have avoided bidding on anything of one another's.

Unless a bid is coming from the same IP address I don't know how on earth Listia could evaluate shill bidding. I mean, do they still remember that lsnoss is my sister? I kinda doubt it, but since she signed up on my IP address it may be that is on an automated checklist somewhere.

Sorry it took me so long to reply today is a VARY BAD day with pain.
I think they keep track of all IP's you use with that account and if you bid on something that's tied to one of those IP's they take it as shill bidding. But that can cause a problem with people that sign up in your home like your sister and my friends from NC.did and those that live in apartments that supply Internet service. I think a notification on the first page of sign up would be a good idea so people wont make the same mistake we did and say hey check this site out and allow them to sign up while there at your home.

sometimes people will flag your auction just to get a badge for it. You get a badge for 100 flags. I will only flag if I feel there is not enough info or it is spam....

Yes and that's sad to do that just to make your self feel good to have a badge that don't mean anything in the real world. If there is truly something wrong with that auction yes do it, I think if I saw something way off I'd flag it, but if it looks like a mistake could have been made on the listers part I would just send them a email and hope it get's fixed if not flag it.

Lupus... I had an auction removed today ... the five purple Pandora beads! I've listed those a bunch of times, but someone flagged it and some idiot moderator removed it. I'm relisting it tonight. The last time Listia removed an auction was the turkey drawing, and I badgered them for days to tell me why. So they promised no moderator would remove it again. I just don't have time to mess with it, we'll see what happens.

These people are getting out of hand with this. Did listia give you a reason? I bet if listia made the flagger give a reason & show him/her self I bet they wouldn't be so fast in doing it because most of the time I think it's just that they want to be mean.

I have read about them but I haven't had to deal with the drama of it. They just need to find other ways to get badges because this is sick. I know some lists need to be reported but this auction was running like all others I've seen. OH well.

OK I found out what shill means. "Shill bidding (when sellers or someone they know places a bid on their auction to drive the price up)"
I don't know anyone that made a bid on my auction on a personal level, but I think we ALL on listia can say I know ?????? for what ever reason be it buying/selling from/to, reading what they type about them self and there family members. I or they may say "let me put my bid in to pump it up" I say it not to put one over on any one but because I know I'm going to be out bid and all my bid is is a step for the next person to stand on.
I really hope this auction didn't get anyone in trouble.

I suppose you could have a shill bidder win your auction and then just refund the credits to them. Shill bidding doesn't have the same effect on Listia as it does on cash auctions.

I don't think you have to worry though ... the bidding will go very high on a $100 gift card! If I remember correctly it needs to get up to about 21,000 credits to be at $100.

A shill bid is when you or a co-conspirator bids on your auction to drive up the bidding. What she asked people to do was not shill bidding ... that would be setting up two accounts and bidding on your own item, or having a friend bid who has no intention of paying for the item if they win (which doesn't really make any sense on Listia).
