The "Ike" Dollar was minted to honor Dwight D. Eisenhower, our 34th President. He was a commanding general in WWII ans was loved and respected by the American people. The gambling industry lobbied for a coin to replace silver dollars for slot machines. silver Dollars were hoarded for their silver content that was worth more than a dollar.
Eisenhower Dollars are no longer found in circulation and command premium prices. They are collector's items that keep an important part of American History alive .
