Description

The listing, Heirloom Tomato ✽ PRINCIPE BORGHESE ✽ 15 Seeds ✽ Organic has ended.

Principe Borghese are short, determinate plants that prolifically yield big clusters of 1-2 oz. red, plum shaped, crack-resistant paste tomatoes that are a great substitute for Roma tomatoes. These tomatoes are prized for drying because they retain more flavor than most other drying varieties. Italians are known for hanging the whole plant loaded with fruit up to dry. Nowadays, a dehydrator is used. Although considered a mid-season tomato, these still produced almost all the way to frost. These would be great for markets, as every fruit was perfectly uniform without a single crack.

Size: determinate
Season: mid-season

This Auction: You will be receiving 15 seeds from my garden. They will be sent First Class mail. I only take Paypal for International bidders, I do combine any additional auction seeds (within 5 days) for no additional shipping charge. I am happy to say that my seeds tested 99-100% germination within 2 weeks at a temp of 65°F in the spring of 2012. Excellent for beginners!

Propagation Method: From seed, sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before last spring frost. Sow 2-3 seeds per pot and thin to one plant per container. After four weeks, transplant seedlings to larger pots, and about 10 days before the last spring frost, begin hardening the plants to the outdoors. Transplant your plants to a sunny, highly composted location when soil temperatures are at least 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Stake or cage the plants for support and to prevent sprawling on the ground.
