Yes you have to call verizon to get it activated. I think it was $20 a month not sure it has been awhile I turned it off

chatting with a verizon person I found this out :There is not unlimited data however we do have data that will meet your needs. I hope this helps. Also you can connect up to 5 devices on it wirelesses.
