The listing, 1840 VOC CENT **1 CENT PIECE** has ended.
This denomination came about due to the need for simplified coinage - they were using fractional coins (1/4 - 1/16 ) of stuivers, which later became cents, but they still could not help themselves and even made things like 2 and 1/2 cent coins...
Some of these coins were even accepted as currency in the U.S.
This is a 1 cent piece, it is about the size of modern US Nickel.
The front features a lion with a crown directly above.
The back features the mint/ date.
