I have the Virgin Mobile one and oculd not live without it. I just get the $20 monthly plan of 3 gb--not sure what this one offers, and I use mine as needed. It is perfect for me and I am never without internet. It is a must have!! I live in Florida and used it on the road all the way to Ohio and in Ohio and loved it!! Only time it does not work is when you go in a tunnel.

Is this made to get 4g on say an ipad ?

I believe this device is 3G, not 4G. But yes, if you get a verizon service plan for it, it will broadcast a wifi signal that you can use for your ipad.

If you already have cable and wifi at home, you don't need this device...this is a personal wifi hotspot device. It lets you create a wifi signal on the go (once you sign up for a service plan). :)
