Indian women and Papoose If you look real close to the bottom of photo there are words I'm not able to make it all out. the words say I believe are ....King Island Native
I just looked up king island native lots of great info and photos this is the Alaska Indian tribe. I beginning to think this photo is just a replica, however I have not seen it on any of the sights. check it out if your real interested in picture.

I think it is a original. It was a photo I acquired when I had my thrift store, so I can not be 100 percent......kim

Just plain white paper.... the photo it self is smooth and shiney like the old photographs. and it is thin and flimsy. unlike my other photos they are on heavy photo paper, like card board.....Kim

She is not an Indian and that is not a papoose. She is an inupiaq Eskimo, which is what I am. She is "amaks" her baby on her back inside of her parka. It is traditional to carry our babies on our backs.

Eskimos no longer inhabit King Island. The tribe has moved to Nome, Alaska (i believe in the 50's), where the tribe continues their traditional way of life. Their inupiaq dancing is very beautiful. You can search "king island dancers" on YouTube for a chance to see them dance.
