These books are meant to be controversial. The author is very opposed to organized religions, and things like Theocracies. :) It's an excellent series!

Yeah they were deliberately made to be controversial. The author is a militant Atheist. Magisterium is actually refers to Christianity and more specifically the Catholic Church.

Book one was made into a movie several years ago and caused a controversy within the Christian community. I've seen the movie and the producers have basically watered it down. There were plans for all three movies to be made, with no promise of the producers watering down the content. Books two and three have yet to be made.

If I didn't own the books already, I'd totally bid because this is an awesome edition of the series! I wish they'd make the other books into movies because even though they didn't really do the books justice, they were interesting films (and I thought the casting for Lyra was spot on). I don't think they will make the other books into movies. There was too much controversy with the first movie and it didn't do so well in the box office.

I loved these books! Would bid, but I already have them all. I don't see how anyone could have found them offensive. It's a fantasy series set in a fantasy make believe world.
