Does it have a strike area on the side?

There is no striker on the side . There are slots on both sides so you can strike on the matcbox- you would have to trim the end of about 1/2 inch so the matches will come out. Thanks for your interest.

I believe the match safe is designed to hold a box of 250 count o large kitchen matches- the matches being approx 2 1/2 inches long. Have a nice day.
