Description

The listing, 1970 Israeli Set of 6 Uncirculated Coins 1 Lira 1/2 Lira 25 Agorot 10 Agorot 5 Agorot 1 Agora has ended.

This offering is for a 1970 Jerusalem Specimen Set, Uncirculated. In the monetary system of Israel at this time, 1 Lira equalled 100 agorot (agorot is plural for agora).

Pictures 1 and 2 show the back and the front of the coin set.

Picture 3 starts at 6:00 on the front of the set, with the 1 Lira coin, and picture 4 is the reverse. This coin is listed as being aluminum on catawiki.com, a website where coin collectors can input their coin inventory and manage it, as well as get specifics about world coins. The reverse has an inset menorah and a 3-pronged symbol that I cannot identify. (I apologize for the dust in these and the rest of the pictures that follow). The set has been sitting around for 43 years!

Going counterclockwise from the 1 Lira, Picture 5 shows the 25 Agorot coin and the picture 6 shows its reverse, which depicts a harp. This coin is listed as being aluminum-bronze.

Still going counterclockwise, Picture 7 shows the 1 agora coin (agora is the singular for agorot). It took 100 of these to make 1 Lira. Picture 8 has the reverse side of the coin which contains what looks like some type of crop, and this coin is listed as being aluminum.

At 12:00 is the 5 Agorot in Picture 9 and its reverse in picture 10, which shows a depiction of fruit. This coin is aluminum-bronze.

Still going counterclockwise using Picture 1 is the 1/2 Lira in Picture 11 and its reverse in picture 12, which shows a depiction of a menorah. This coin is listed as being cupronickel, aka a copper-nickel alloy that may contain "strengthening" metals such as iron or manganese for durability.

In Picture 13 and 14 is the obverse and reverse of the 10 Agorot coin, which depicts a palm tree. It is listed as have a composition of aluminum-bronze.

Listia rules apply and you must have a Listia-verified address for shipment which is free.

Wow, did she live in Israel during this time? It was very tough in Israel from 1965-1970, not to say it isn't tough now!
