Questions & Comments
Help me out here, im certainly no techy' but i am one of guys who thinks " I more likely don't need it, but I want it any way " so what the heck is this? and how does it asscoiate in everday home computing life? hope that's not too much of a ?
The Raspberry Pi is a single board computer that fits in your palm. It was created as a cheap product to be used for teaching programming to kids.
Most people who buy one for their home use use it for a media center. There are several media center operating systems built to run on the RPi. Others with the know how use the RPi for controlling their home electronics, such as powering them on or off. others still with more know how use them for many advanced projects such as weather analysis, remote control cars, robotics, and more.
You can find out more by visiting the official site http://www.raspberrypi.org/ and their forums http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/
You can also search Raspberry Pi on YouTube to find some great projects that are being thought up.
My uses for a Raspberry Pi: development web server xbmc media center minecraft pi edition server and client thin client for easy and cheap work stations around the house dlna server more to come...
Most of all, teaching my daughter on these with the above projects is really fun!
Here's my 2 cents. Anyone can buy Amazon $1 gift codes and sell them on here for upwards of 1000 credits (I'm not sure if this is some kind of secret, but I figured it out as soon as I started using the site). That makes the GIN = $45.00 in my book which is not expensive. But the whole point of Listia is to give your crap away to get stuff you want, so if you do that it's even cheaper (or possibly even free, if you are patient).
Just so everyone knows...This is the last Pi I will be listing here for a while. I am currently working on a project to use the rest of the ones I have on. So you also know, the project involves setting up minecraft pi edition on my local network so we can play together and over the internet with friends. If anyone is interested in this kind of project, or maybe just wants to play minecraft pi edition in a shared world over the internet, feel free to hit me up with a private message. It may get wild with the option of using the api to control minecraft.
I'm also working on a desktop app to use to control a minecraft pi instance running on the local network. This app will probably be built with appjs or at least node and socket.io or something.
Honesltly I think people should leave the $$$ out. Listia is more of a bartering system based on the fact people will bid on an item based on what they perceive the value of it is and will normally get there credits listing an item in which other people bid with the same mentality. Listians have there own economics which is based on personal value rather then the skewed commercial value of things such as on eBay's site. It's hard for people to think of the fact that not that long ago project boards such as the Pi could cost between $225 - $500 a pop. I'm not even talking about 5 years ago either. So in that sense the GIN price makes perfect sense. I definitely fanned you on before and will surely be watching. Great auction and good luck.
Thanks for the props and for watching. Yeah, I don't understand what a lot of the people's problems are on here. My wife and I are getting free stuff with free shipping. We win our credits with auctions, and most of the stuff we auction off we got from thrift stores, or we had already. Listia is fun! I love the intensity of a last minute bid war. I love it even more when I win them! LOL
Just so everyone knows, I can't upload the pics of the new cables until tomorrow because I only have my cell phone to take the pics with. I do not get good lighting at night with this phone to take quality pics. I will take the pics first thing in the morning in the daylight. Sorry for the inconvenience.
LOL....I was just playing that before I logged in here. My daughter is learning python at 9 and want to try out some more stuff now that she has been introduced in a fun way.
Yes....I posted the auction from my phone and it gave me no option of choosing Canada specifically. I am updating the auction now. Thanks for coming back!
I'm not slamming it (or not meaning to. Just doing math.) These things are awesome, and as you said, it gives people a chance to *possibly* get them for free, which is also awesome. Honestly, I think you're doing something really cool by putting them up here. Buying these on here is definitely not for the "Pay for credits" person, but rather the "I have no cash so I yard sale my stuff on here" kind of Listian. It's a good auction, but I think the GIN is a bit steep, even with the cables, that are not particularly expensive either. I will be bidding.
I'm glad you cleared that up for me. I do admit that this is not an auction for the credit buyers. Unless they are only bidding. I also realize that the GIN is a LITTLE steep, but I only added the GIN in case someone thought it was worth it to bypass the bidders. Thanks also for giving me props! ;)
Let's not forget the power cord, ethernet cable and I am soon to add an hdmi cable, av cables, and an audio jack. Do you also realize that many people are selling $1 items here on listia for up to 7000 credits and maybe more. It is up to the buyer (who may have gotten ALL of their credits freely or by selling their stuff, not by buying them) to decide if the item is worth it or not. Thanks for slamming my auction by the way.
If you use a usb hub, you should use a powered one. That way you don't use too much power from the Pi. However, 2 usb ports are plenty for a mouse and keyboard.
Whew! I have had a long day....I am sorry to say that I can't get the pics up tonight of the power cord and ethernet cable, but they are included as of now!
Also! Do you need the SD card for the OS or is one "built in?" Sorry not very familiar w/ this at all! Seems great for a child to learn and explore with? What would be the "advantage" of using it just for media?
The OS can be downloaded from the internet and there are instructions on installing it to an sd card here http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup. These are awesome for kids and grownups alike to learn with. I am learning python with my 9 yr old daughter with minecraft pi edition, which comes free with an api to play with. an advantage of using it for just media purposes is that the OSes built for it are built FOR it. Most of them come with many features and the best one is playing media from any source that can stream media. Not to mention being the Pi can play full 1080p video and can be controlled with your tv's cec remote control through hdmi.
Hi! Nice auction! Is this model a or b? On the app, and not sure. Does it come with the SD card (pre-loaded) just wondering if it has one or 2 USB ports & what type of keyboard do you use? Are there a lot of keyboards that won't "work with it?" Thanks!! Watching
Thanks! This is a model b as the title says. There is no sd card included. I use any usb keyboard and have found none that don't work. There are 2 usb ports on this model.
I guess I should specify that in the listing. If you gin before any accessories are added to the auction, you will receive a power cord and an Ethernet cable. If you gin after accessories are added, you will receive everything added as well.
