The listing, 2003 STAR OR REPLACEMENT NOTE CRISP UNC. has ended.
The use of star as a prefix on replacement notes that substitute for defective notes discovered at the bureau during inspection began in 1910 *-b on u s notes and silver certificates. later, suffix d was used, and the system continued with the printing of small-size notes. however, federal bank notes and federal reserve notes employ the star as the suffix. star notes are not intentionally and may not occur for millions of notes. the star in u.s. currency notes has always puzzled the general public although knowledgeable collectors were simply delighted to see more collector material come into the market even if they were errors created through government printing presses.
