Lapis lazuli is an ancient gem, and as such, has a storied history. Egyptian cultures made a practice of burying a lapis lazuli scarab with their dead, and believed it to offer protection. The very earliest cultures valued lapis lazuli more highly than gold. Greeks spoke of an ancient sapphire which was included with gold, and this was unmistakably lapis. Some believed that dreaming of lapis would foretell love that would be forever faithful.

18k Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. The term 18-carat gold (18k) (18kRGP) means that the alloy's weight consists of 75% of gold and 25% of alloy(s). The higher carat the more gold is in the piece and will be less likely to cause problems. Most people do not have any problems with the gold plating it is the metal alloy under the gold plating. If you have allergy to metals this piece could cause a rash or discolor your skin. Unfortunately I do not know the base alloy of this piece. It is advised to take off your jewelry before washing or bathing. Clean it gently with soft cloth or an appropriate jewelry cleaner, this could help to eliminate any dirt or dust and make it last for years.
