The listing, NICE! 2 Buffalo Head Nickels 1915 and 1917 has ended.
Up for bid are two buffalo head nickels, dated 1915 and 1917. Picture 1 shows the obverse of the lot of two nickels.
Pictures 2 and 3 show the obverse & reverse of the 1915. Initially I thought this coin graded G, but upon examination with a 5x loupe & using the Red Book, it meets VG criteria (horn worn nearly flat) and part of the F criteria (horn & tail smooth but partially visible), for a final grade of VG, almost VG+, which lists at $8 in the Red Book (if it was G, it would be $6; if it was fine it would list @ $9).
Continuing on with the 1915, the date and all lettering is readable, although the date is somewhat weak. The rims are very good, but there is some rim bleeding into LIBERTY on the obverse, and LIBERTY itself is even weaker than the date. I can see 3 tiny, tiny dings at around 1:00-2:00 on the obverse w/the 5x loupe.
Pictures 4 and 5 show the obverse & reverse of the 1917. I also initially thought this coin was a G grade, but further examination w/the loupe & using Red Book criteria, this coin grades at F-. The rims are better than on the 1915, and LIBERTY is much stronger on this coin and the rims are more intact w/only slight bleeding/merging into the lettering on the obverse. I see no rim bleeding on the reverse. Damage-wise, the coin has some scratches in the date area, which detract from its value, which would otherwise be $8 at the F grade in the Red Book before considering the date scratches. I also see 6 tiny tiny rim dings between 11:00-3:00 on the obverse as well as 3 tiny rim dings between 6:30 & 8:00 using the 5x loupe.
