Description

The listing, 1969 Topps baseball card lot (GIN bonus) has ended.

Here's a lot of four (4) vintage 1969 Topps baseball cards (NOT reprints). These are all in nice condition: no creases I see or other major flaws, and most of the corners look good. Hard to believe these cards are 44 years old!

1969 Giants rookie stars CESAR GUTIERREZ and RICH ROBERTSON (#16). GutiƩrrez is best known for setting a major league record for consecutive hits in an extra-inning game (on 6/21/70 with 6 singles and a triple for the Detroit Tigers in a 9-8, 12-inning win over the Indians). Robertson pitched 86 games, all for San Francisco, over 6 years. His major league career wasn't too impressive, but in the minors, led the PCL in strikeouts in both 1967 and 1968.

CLAY CARROLL #26 (P, Cincinnati Reds) had a nice 15-year career. His best season might've been 1972 when he got some MVP votes (tied Roberto Clemente for 13th in the voting) and led all of baseball with 37 saves. He was also great in the postseason, with a 1.39 ERA in 22 games, winning a ring with the Big Red Machine team of 1975 led by the likes of Pete Rose and Johnny Bench.

JERRY STEPHENSON #172 (P, Boston Red Sox) pitched 7 years in the majors and had his best season in 1967, going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA and a save in 8 appearances. His team reached the World Series, and he pitched in Game Four, allowing 2 runs in 2 innings as the Sox fell to the Cardinals in 7 games. After his playing career ended, he scouted for many years with the Dodgers and Red Sox.

DON SHAW #183 (P, Montreal Expos) pitched in 138 major league games from 1967 to 1972 for the New York Mets, Montreal Expos, St. Louis Cardinals, and Oakland A's. He has the distinction of being the winning pitcher in the 1st game ever played by the Expos (April 8, 1969 against the Mets at Shea).
