Description

The listing, Antique Brass Pocket Rosary Holder - Embossed Virgin Mary Medallion! a must see!! has ended.

A charming antique pocket rosary holder, circa 1940s. This rosary holder is made of brass and had a dark purple felt lining. As you can see it has "rubbed off" or worn off throughout the years. What is left of the felt lining, as you can see in my pictures, is the remaining "felt residue", at the very bottom. It does not rub off by touch.
On the top of the rosary holder is a beautiful Raised Medallion-style image of the Virgin Mary, with surrounding text reading "O MARY CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN PRAY FOR US WHO HAVE RECOURSE TO THEE 1830."
The case measures 2 1/2" in diameter and is still in Good Condition for its age. It does have signs of wear--The Top, mostly at the left, has a few small :dents(which I am sure could be straightened.) The front "latch" is still there, as is the "back" Closure with the Pin. Looks to be easily fixed so that it opens & closes. I just did not want to try, considering it is an Antique & I have no experience.
If you are good with jewelry & have the proper "tools", you may want to fix it....if you chose to.
There is some mild wear and a darkened patina to the brass due to its age and normal use (being carried around) over the years. It is beautiful!
This is a very unique antique pocket rosary carrier/case.
Very meaningful & lovely collectible.
Thanks For Looking & HAPPY BIDDING:)

Sorry. It is worth so much more:) Being as old as it is. The embossing "medallion" on the top is amazing. It is hopefully going to go much higher, although I never know, a true antique & meaningful piece. Add to that, I always pay for shipping & Tracking. I think that you should consider how much you like it, that it is a rare hard to find Antique. I would not even like to see it end at the start bid@! Thanks for your question & for looking. I did see a "similar, comp." on one site in "worse" physical shape, although this one still has the ability to be fixed if someone chooses, as all the clips~hardware are attached, sell for $34.90. So, Hope you will continue to watch. If not, Thanks for looking.

If it's from the 1940's, what is the significance of 1830?

Hi! Good question?! I saw your message & put a call into a friend who works for an Antique Furniture Store, but she also has sold Antique Jewelry & other pieces for years now. I hope to hear from her before the auction ends. And if so, I will let you know right away. My thought( prob wrong?!) is that possibly it was a jubilee year for a reason?! Thanks hope to be able to answer soon. Good to see you:)

Ok I have an answer!

" I believe it refers to the year the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Catherine Laboure. The image on the top is essentially that of the "Miraculous Medal."
Although there is nothing that specifically dates the piece to the 1940's, its style and construction certainly suggests that it is from that decade...especially the purple felt interior."
Wow! The "purple felt" interior, as you can tell by pics is all but gone. It appears black, felt, what is left. Thanks!

That should be that the 1830 stamped on top refers to the year....
