Description

The listing, 1800's Traveling Priest's "Holy Water" has ended.

Hello everyone,

I have here a true antique from the 1850's thru to the
1890's. My great great-grandfathers brother was a
Priest and part of the duties of the week was administering
the mass to the wilderness People who couldn't get to
the church on Sundays. Some just because they had to
many kids and the buck board couldn't fit them all. So,
he would travel to preform Last-rites, Rites of Mass and
a few weddings here and there. He had all he needed in
is little leather box, which he carried everywhere. My
great great- uncle's leather wrapped box had everything.
A sterling Cross, Sterling challis, candles, and this Holy
water bottle which has a corked top with an attached
metal Crown. The bottle has a Cross on one side and says "HOLY WATER" on the other. It is approx.. 3 1/2 inches tall and is in excellent condition. No sick glass, or damage. A great piece of history that has been long gone. Thanks for looking and stopping by.

Thank you, I'm glad my family like to talk about there history. I was always fascinated with anything historical. Even as young as 5 yrs. old, I would listed
to my great grandfather tell about his family back in Canada. Probably helped him cope with his distance from them.

My mom and sister in 1933 was picked up by their priest in a buckboard and they went to Lewiston Idaho for lessons and she was baptized and confirmed in Lewiston. She talked about how he had warmed bricks and had wool blankets for them as it was so cold. I would love to have this but need to earn a lot ,ore credits as this will probable go as high as your other auction.
Being Catholic I wold really enjoy something like this. Good luck everyone

Thanks for the history, I just love hearing it as well. It's a lot of pride in our history. I don't know why more young people under 30 don't ask to sit with there grandparents
and ask about there family history. As a candy striper in a nursing home at the starting age of 13, is where my history telling started. I listened for hours to strangers tell there's....and it made me want to keep asking my grandmother. That's
why I tell the story so often behind my items, I wanted to know. Thank you.

Awesome listing, just what I needed. Do you reckon the Catholic Church still gives free refills? ;-)

Thank you....I think they do if they still have there water font still in the foyer of your
church. If not, your priest should give you refills upon request. It just blessed water
by him and shouldn't be a problem.......good luck.

That's sooo cool ~ including the comments just LOVE this auction! Thank you so much for sharing! I love to talk with many "senior" friends and learn about the good old days, history nut here! And I love anything Catholic too..guess cuz I was Christened Catholic but brought up Protestant it fascinates me...I make Rosaries now and would love to get in touch with a Priest to bless them before I give them as gifts...this would be perfect too, maybe get some Holy Water too...Best Wishes and fanned you too! God bless!

I love to hear about others experiences and projects there doing and I think its
a wonderful thing. I once collected Rosaries of crystal Beads or unusual beads.
Like in the early 1800's Catholic French Nuns in Convents would make beads out
of Rose Petals....then make Rosaries out of them....it fascinated me for years until
I finally found a Rosary of Rose beads and I still own them and always will. I love history too.......thank you for sharing also. I'm trying to pass on the history of the
items I put on here......thanks again and fanned you too.
