Description

The listing, STRNGE TIKI AFRICAN TRIBAL FACE RASTA NECKLACE PENDANT BRONZE GOLD TONE~FOUND WHILE DIVING FREE SHIP has ended.

This is an extremely strange necklace, i found it while diving, deep in the ocean. i assume someone lost it while doing the same thing i was doing, but it is a strange piece. it scares me a little, just because it's so odd, and it was scary finding it at the bottom of the ocean. i was diving, pulled it up, brought it onto the boat, and it just shined like a really wild looking copper penny. it's large, 2 1/2" tall pendant, i'm going to be honest here, if you get worried or nervous easily about mysterious odd things, do not bid on this. it gives you an odd feeling, especially while wearing it. i tried wearing it, but had to take it off mid day because i was getting eerie feelings. i debated about trying to get rid of it, i thought about throwing it in the trash, so i tossed it in the trash can beside my desk, saw it go in, then left and went to my friends, came back home, and the thing was laying on the floor beside the trash. and i don't even live with anyone. blech. it's just scary!.i just really didn't know...so i finally have decided to maybe pass it on to someone that may be able to enjoy it, tolerate it. i feel odd around it. i'm giving free shipping, i really just want to pass it on. i'll wrap in bubble for safe shipping, and i hope you enjoy it, and don't feel weird about receiving it, and hope you can feel comfortable wearing it. everyone that saw it around my neck would comment on it, and tell me it gave them chills. he has a really scary face. good luck. bidding started at 0, so i can make for sure i get rid of it. i just hope i don't get it back. grrr.

There sure are a lot of brave souls bidding on this piece. I am not one of them. Will the winner tell us their experience with the piece? This is so fascinating.

Here's what I think. The mask might be old, but the other beads are new and fairly common. I think someone was wearing it, probably diving, just like you and lost it. The mask might be worth something, but that is my theory. Doesn't that make sense?

Yes, i'm pretty sure it was someone else's piece. If someone hadn't brought it up, it would have been lost forever. It was really far, Surprisingly I rarely go that deep, but I was about a little over a hundred feet. A lot of interesting things down there.

That is what I was going to ask. Which ocean and is near some Islands and how deep.I also think the beads look new. There are so many different cultures that had Gods. Somona , Hawaii. Oceania. I think some one who is know a lot about It does not look like a tiki God.anceient gods and Goddess of different times would have more of an answer. I would bid on it but have not enough credits as I know it will go high. I would love to hear what the winner finds out about this. Very interesting good luck

We always fear what we don't understand. Someone tossed this in the ocean for a reason. They may have rid themselves of the heebie-geebies but the poor thing wants to rest in peace. I'm an no expert, and most likely I don't know what I'm talking about, but I strongly suspect an Aztec-Mayan connection if it is authentic. I have a feeling that the cord did not originally go with the pendant. The cord would have dissolved years (or centuries) ago. Could I be correct?

I Googled "Mayan masks." This piece is extremely similar to what is termed as a ritual mask, sometimes representing a royal person. I researched Mayan rituals and it was customary for artifacts to be buried with the dead in the earth, although pottery was mentioned moreso than jewelry. The home was set afire atop the body and the accompanying buried artifacts and rebuilt in the same spot. If this piece is Mayan, it didn't belong in the ocean. It is wanting to return to its rightful burial place. I doubt that it will cause any harm but won't likely rest until it feels at home. Whoever wins this might want to seek the opinion of an archaeologist at a university or from a local museum curator.

That's really awesome info! Maybe I should take it. I just really don't like having it around me. I'll let the buyer take it, and hopefully be able to find info, and peace with having it. Since it was so deep, in the area I was diving, it was really strange that I even found it. It was like wrapped around a rock, and under the bottom silt, but I saw it, dove down, and pulled at it, and took it up with me. ah well. I probably won't be doing that next time I dive. haha!

I was off the cove in la Jolla. I go diving there all the time. Pacific. But I was further out than I normally go, and in an area I normally am not in. That is what was odd. I usually go snorkling in the cove, and find a few things, but nothing like this.

This piece is absolutely gorgeous. I am a great lover of African/Southwestern/Mexican art. Can you venture a guess as to what kind of metal it is? And, does it appear to have been pounded into shape? Are there chisel-type marks?

hmmm..It doesn't look like it was made with a machine, that's for sure. So possibly hand made pounded, or something.

I encourage people to do some research on this, like who was travelling the seas a few hundred years ago. It might give some insight as to why it's creepy. I'm no expert but it looks Mayan to me, especially, considering the seller's location. The beads look new, though, which leads me to believe that they were added onto the necklace far later than its manufacture.
